News & Events

Team Alberta will be bringing back some hardware from the Canada Summer Games in Summerside and Montague, PEI this year!

  The Alberta Men were able to capture the team Bronze Medal, losing only to a tough Ontario team! Team members Jordan Wallace, Quinn Graham, Marcus Peterson Spenser Burk, Josue Hernandez, Matt Bustard, Reid Watkins, Spencer Watkins, Jordan Ferguson, Nick Proctor, Daniel Nwaerondu and Sam Carstairs all did their parts to ensure a victory in the bronze medal final!

Congratulations to the men's team coaches Kris Christianson and Robert Tompson!

The Women's team was not interested in being outshined! The women's team beat out all their opponents in their pool and lost only to Ontario in a very close final! This resulted in an outstanding Silver Medal in the female team event! Team members: Tonia Zenner, Cara Nania, Kacy Nishimura, Hayley Thomas, Vanessa Wright, Natalie Brady, Tommi Seida, Jessy Seida, Sabrina Kelly, Holly Ellsworth-Clark and Breanne Pare all worked hard to bring Alberta to the final match!

Well done coaches Brandy Ens and Stephanie Buchan!

John Barry to be inducted into the University of Alberta Hall of Fame

John Barry will be recognized by the University Alumni as a member of the University of Alberta hall of fame on October 1st, 2009.
Place:  Winspear Centre, Edmonton

Ceremony is 5:30 – 7:00

Notification of Sport Governance

Under the direction of the Canadian Amateur Wrestling Association (CAWA) the Alberta Amateur Wrestling Association (AAWA) will be the governing body in Alberta for the sport of Grappling, as set out by the CAWA and the FILA (Fédération Internationale des Luttes Associées.) The Alberta Amateur Wrestling Association welcomes clubs and individuals who wish to be members of the Alberta Amateur Wrestling Association.

Members of the AAWA will have access to Canada-specific events hosted by the CAWA and FILA as the governing body. These will include, but not be limited to: Canadian national championships, world team trials, and world championships. In addition to these opportunity the AAWA will endeavor to provide consistent standards to any FILA, CAWA or AAWA sanctioned events within Alberta. Members of the grappling community will also have the opportunity to contribute at our annual general meetings and have an equal say in the development of the sport of grappling as it has been set out by the international community.
